Happy National Library Workers’ Day!

Happy National Library Workers’ Day to all the amazing people who work in libraries. Today, April 9, 2024, is National Library Workers Day (NLWD). Established by the American Library Association-Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA), NLWD was designed to recognize all library workers who make library service possible every day.

Library workers have been attacked on many fronts, yet library staff continue to play an invaluable role in supporting their communities. In both good times and times of challenge or crisis, library workers in all types of libraries serve millions of library users in need of free access to information and resources.

Do you know any library workers who should be recognized for the magnificent work they do, their positive outlook and/or the wonderful way they assist patrons? Consider submitting their names to the ALA-APA Galaxy of Stars as part of the NLWD celebration. It’s not too late to let someone know that you appreciate them and the work they do.

The ALA-APA invites library advocates, patrons, board members, friends, and staff to show their support of our nation’s library workers by posting words of encouragement and appreciation for their local library stars at http://bit.ly/librarystar. Provide a brief testimonial about a favorite library employee or full library staff. You may share stories about how library staff has an impact on you, your family, or community. Each testimonial will appear in ALA-APA’s “Galaxy of Stars.”

Library staff and the general public can also share well wishes over their social media channels with the hashtag #NLWD24 or post messages to the National Library Workers Day Facebook  page.

Let’s take the time to show appreciation for our fantastic library workers! Submit a name now.
