Ways to Relieve Stress this Summer
During a recent meeting I attended, the host asked participants to list their favorite summer-time activities in the chat for an ice-breaker. As you can imagine, there were plenty of ideas ─going to outdoor concerts, walking along the beach, bike-riding with friends, going to a drive-in movie (do any still exist?), visiting zoos, museums, amusement parks with the kiddies, etc. With school being out and weeks of vacation to use, summer provides the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends, unwind, and de-stress. Often, people plan elaborate vacations or day-long outings that can be expensive. However, if you’re looking for ways to relax that do not involve spending a lot of money, there is good news. This article’s author suggests plenty of simple, cheap, and even free ways to relieve stress this summer. Although some activities can be stress-inducing themselves (when you need a vacation from your vacation), it’s important to find ways to simplify your activities so you are not overwhelmed and burnt. Use some of your time this summer for self-care. Do things that allow you to feel calm, peaceful, and rejuvenated. If you do, you may find it easier to ease into the hectic pace that often comes with the end of summer (i.e., preparing for back to school, new projects at work, etc.).
