October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month!

Observed each October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities past and present and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices that benefit employers and employees alike. The theme for NDEAM 2023 is “Advancing Access and Equity.

Commenting on the significance of NDEAM, Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy Taryn M. Williams stated, “National Disability Employment Awareness Month reminds us of the valued contributions people with disabilities make in our nation’s workplaces.”

The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) has developed the 31 Days of NDEAM website which offers a variety of ideas on how to highlight and celebrate this month. It’s not too late to use some of the ideas to plan activities in your library. There’s still time to acknowledge library workers whose work helps keep the libraries, our communities, and the nation’s economy strong.
