Why We Feel Exhausted and Lack Focus and What Can Help

Are there days when you don’t feel like doing anything, especially working? You may not feel burnt out, but neither are you bursting with energy. Perhaps you feel tired, or like you’re walking around in a ‘fog.’ Don’t worry, you are not alone. After more than a year of disruption caused by the pandemic, many people feel ‘blah.’ It’s okay to admit that you are not okay. It does not mean that there is something “wrong” with you. You don’t have to pretend that everything is right with the world when nothing feels right in your reality. You can allow yourself to feel what you feel and not feel guilty about it.

This article explains some possible reasons why we might be experiencing fatigue and offers suggestions for what we can do to help fight the mental fog and exhaustion. In another article, a contributor comments that she’s “just trying to get through the day, like everyone else.”  In both pieces, we are encouraged to keep in mind all of the usual things that help during stressful times: quality sleep, exercise, a healthy diet, going outdoors and limiting news consumption. Engage in relaxing activities often, like a hobby you love, listening to or watching something funny, or reading books you enjoy. It is also okay to take time and do nothing.
