ALA Editions Offers eCourses Rich in Professional Development Content
ALA Editions, the publishing imprint of the American Library Association, is offering six new courses ideal for professional development, in addition to the line of general skills courses from MindLeaders™ already offered. The Courses are hosted at classes.alaeditions.org.
Copyright & Electronic Resource Management, developed by library consultant and attorney Lesley Ellen Harris, covers the legal, strategic, and practical implications of using, publishing, and re-distributing licensed digital content.
Five other courses were adapted from ALA Editions books, written by experts in each area.
- Marketing Public Libraries explains how to create community-based marketing campaigns using Web 2.0 tools.
- Marketing Academic Libraries also emphasizes Web 2.0 tools, addressing the academic library community.
- Hiring and Supervising Library Shelvers covers recruitment, training, and management for staff in this high-turnover position.
- Library Supervision, useful as a primer for the new supervisor or a refresher, considers today’s lesshierarchical library organizations.
- Library Security presents an overview of factors to consider when planning for a safe library for users and employees.
You can purchase access to the courses on the ALA Store; upon purchase, you will download a PDF file with an access code and instructions. and can then set up an account at the ALA Editions elearning site. From there, you can move easily among all ALA Editions courses purchased. The single-site use courses are created using the Moodle Platform.
