Dynix Corporation supports better salaries for library workers

The Dynix Corporation, a leading provider of information management systems to libraries worldwide, has donated $16,000 to the American Library Association-Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA). The funds will serve two purposes: to support the activities of the Standing Committee on the Salaries and Status of Library Workers and to fund the Dynix-ALA-APA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Promoting Salaries and Status for Library Workers.

“We are pleased to be working with the ALA-Allied Professional Association in improving the salaries of library workers, an essential cause in advancing the profession and providing librarians with the recognition they deserve as invaluable members of our society,” said Jack Blount, Dynix President and CEO. “With more than 100 professional librarians on staff at Dynix, we understand the essential role of librarianship and are excited to support the ALA-APA now and in the future.”

Associations and libraries that are interested in having a member of the Standing Committee on the Salaries and Status of Library Workers may contact the ALA-APA office (see below). The members have already made significant contributions to ALA-APA. They developed the “Advocating for Better Salaries and Pay Equity Toolkit” during Chair Maurice J. Freedman’s ALA Presidency. They have training sessions and other programs at ALA conferences. Finally, they continue to encourage salary-related activities by ALA chapters and participation by members in public awareness activities during Equal Pay Day. The Dynix donation will allow the Standing Committee members to participate in outreach to state and local conferences.

If you would like a member of the Standing Committee to speak at a conference, please contact Jenifer Grady at 800-545-2433, ext. 2424 or e-mail jgrady@ala.org.
