Star Archives: OK

Mary from a public library in Hennessey, OK

is a Star because Mary has worked with our town council to provide two full-time positions in the library. Two years ago our town offices moved out of the building the library is in and turned the building over to the library. Mary has actively pursued and received several grants which will preserve this historical building. The Hennessey Public Library is a comfortable, welcoming library thanks in most part to Mary Haney. Thanks to Karen for this nomination.

Sharlotte from a public library in Ardmore, OK

is a Star because Sharlotte is about to retire and I think she deserves recognition.  In the words of a library staff member at my library (not Sharlotte’s) "I have always been impressed with her leadership.  At the end of a meeting that she has run, you have volunteered for a lot of things and Sharlotte has convinced you that you can do it."  Sharlotte has supervised many people and has provided excellent reference services for years for a library system that provides for many rural communities.  Her life as a librarian has been well-lived.  She has made a lasting contribution to her library and to her state.  I think a measure of the value of an individual is reflected in the reaction of people when they hear that person is leaving or retiring.  A sigh and a universal, "gee, she is good, I’ll miss her," is the reaction when people learn that Sharlotte is retiring.  She is a star in my book. Thanks to Pat for this nomination.
