is a Star because she is terrific at what she does. If she was not in the library, it would fall apart. She is awesome with the students and knows most if not all of them on a first name basis. Our school and library would be lost with out Debbie. She is the glue that holds us all together. Please stop by and tell her how special and wonderful she is. Thanks to Amy for this nomination.
is a Star because she is the best librarian any school could ask for. Located in South Central Los Angeles, our school is a three track year-round, overcrowded place. Mary has worked at Fremont for over 30 years. First, she was an English teacher and then she transitioned into a librarian. She maintains the best collection of young adult literature in the entire South Central area, where there is only one library and no bookstores. She goes out of her way to take requests from students and to help them find what they seek. She has done more to raise awareness about literacy on our campus than anyone else. Her library is an oasis for teacher, students, and staff members alike. Beyond all of this, she has dedicated her career to fighting injustice, whether on the behalf of our students or our teachers. She is active in our local teachers’ union and she creates amazing, motivating flyers that help unite people for whatever cause we are fighting. Right now, our campus is being reconstituted per NCLB. We are the first in LAUSD. Ms. Hoover has been a leader, despite the disappointment and anger she feels. We are so lucky to have her lead us through this incredibly difficult time. Unfortunately, she is retiring early due to the reconstitution. We would love to honor her and this would be a great way to do so. Her career is a hallmark to the power, passion, and social justice librarians possess. Thanks to Beth for this nomination.

She helps students find books they would enjoy reading and with reference books for projects. Thanks to Kathy for this nomination.
