A Unique Gift for NLWD

Last month, libraries around the world celebrated National Library Workers Day (NLWD – April 10th this year). NLWD is a day for library staff, users, administrators and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.  Many had cake and parties to let library staff know how much they are appreciated. Almost 2,000 people were nominated as STARS!

Linda Kramer, Director of Library Services at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota wrote:

“I have a small staff, and I try to get them each a library or book-related gift each year. This year I had personalized luggage tags made from a scan of an old library card I found while weeding.  No one else at the airport will have one like it!” What a unique gift.

Announcements of the NLWD celebrations were made on radio, news, and social media channels across the nation.  ALA President, Jim Neal recorded a brief video about the importance of library workers and libraries.

We are excited to see and hear about what libraries will do next year to celebrate NLWD. Start thinking about your plans now. You can find a few ideas on the NLWD web site.
