Course Structure/Delivery:
Online via a combination of live, synchronous sessions and asynchronous discussion boards. Students will meet online weekly for 2 hours on Tuesdays from 2:00 – 4:00 pm central time. Discussion boards may be accessed at any time during the course.

To familiarize the student with the basic principles of library personnel management and organization, including personnel administration within the context of the mission and goals of the organization. Topics included are recruitment of staff, making hiring decisions, supervision of staff, evaluation of staff’s performance, identification of training needs, implementation of training, firing or terminiating staff, evaluating the effectiveness of the organizational structure with regard to personnel management, evaluating personnel policies and identifying and securing resources for staff. Upon completion of the course the candidate is expected to be able to write effective personnel policies, list the key legal issues involved in hiring and managing resolution skkills, and write a staff development and training plan that includes the introduction of technology.
