ALA-APA Governance Task Force
Governance/Executive Board

  1. The basic role of the ALA Executive Board to APA as well defined in the Bylaws (V., A. B. C. & D.)

  2. The official meeting of the APA Board should probably be Annual Conference.

  3. The relationship and role of the ALA Executive Director will be the same on both Boards and in assuring staff support.

  4. Depending upon the committee structure, the Board should determine the liaison needs to APA committees, such as accreditation.

  5. BARC, an Executive Board Committee, should be the oversight for APA.

  6. The Board may want to develop a special relationship with whatever arm of APA does Advocacy. APA was sold to ALA Council on the advocacy abilities of this group, so it seems there is potential in this area, which will reflect either positively, or negatively on ALA as well as APA.

General Comment: I think this is pretty cut and dry as defined in the Bylaws. Much of the initial work of APA may be staff driven and some time may be needed to allow the relationship to work itself out.
